President's Corner - What do you want SMWL to Look Like?
President’s Corner—What do you want SMWL to look like?
Greetings! I am so excited to be serving this year with such a fantastic group of women. The leaders of the SMWL are so enthusiastic about making this organization meaningful for its members. Not only do we want to address the purpose of our organization, but we really want to highlight the networking, service, and educational opportunities SMWL can offer the women of our legal community.
The Board is also looking to its fellow leaders across the state. Shelly Dreyer, Erica Mynarich, Amanda Callaway, Emily Blinzig, Amanda Brown, and I attended the first-ever Missouri Bar Leadership Institute last month in Jefferson City. (You see us posing at the MO Bar office after Day 2 of the seminar on this page.) We were there with many of the local or minority bar associations across the state. We were also able to meet and talk with leadership in the Kansas City and St. Louis women bar associations. We are currently making plans to have a Board retreat with the Board of KC AWL in Kansas City so we can benefit from their wisdom and encouragement.
In addition to our outstanding CLE offerings lined up this year, we are looking forward to other opportunities for service and fellowship. We also think it would be important to start a special mentoring program within SMWL between younger and older women lawyers. By the way, we have reserved a date this summer with Ozarks Food Harvest to assist in the warehouse and are already thinking about the fall 2019 Harvest Party. What else do we want to do this year? Barbecues? Float trips? What do you want SMWL to look like?
I think that SMWL is poised to do some great things for its members and our communities in southern Missouri. I invite and encourage you to support SMWL in 2019 with your presence, your ideas, and your passion for using the practice of law to make our community a better place. What do you want SMWL to look like? I hope you see or hear from you soon!
Best regards,
Lara Webb Fors
